There was a great buzz in the school as excitement started to build for the boys and girls
as they prepared for the annual Christmas Concert. Drama plays a big part in the lives of the children in Carriganima National School. We see the value of the children performing on stage - the fun, excitement and confidence building is wonderful. At Christmas, every child performs in the Christmas Concert. Drama classes are taught in the school to all the children after the Halloween mid-term break. Our School has a great reputation and proud tradition of concerts, shows and drama sketches. Confirmation pupils had their Confirmation Enrolment Ceremony on Tuesday 4th December 2018 in the school.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation includes an Enrolment Ceremony / Ceremony of light. The children renew the Baptismal promises made by their parents on their behalf when they were infants. All the children sang and read very well. Thanks to Mr. Newman who prepared the pupils, to Fr. Anthony Wickham for the lovely ceremony and to the parents who were there to support them. The children dressed up in all kinds of costumes and jerseys. Everyone looked great. Leave us a comment What do you think of our costumes?

A big thanks to Angela and Carmel for the brilliant science workshops which covered a range of different activities. All the pupils that participated in the workshops, really enjoyed it and learned a lot.

Today Wednesday 6th June 2018, as another academic year comes to an end, we gather as a school community to celebrate the 6th Class Graduation Mass which is a tradition in the school with a number of years. The 6th class were involved in readings, prayers of the faithful and the symbol procession. They demonstrated how mature they are as they prepare to start the next part of their educational journey. Rás Tailteann is an eight-day, international stage race around Ireland – commonly known as “The Rás”. The race is Ireland’s number one cycling event and takes place each year in May. This year the event started on Sunday 20th May and will finish in Skerries, Co Dublin on Sunday 27th May 2018. On 24th May 2018, the Rás started in Glengarriff and passed through Carriganima on it’s way to Mitchelstown. There was great excitement when the children heard the sound of sirens from the cars, crew, doctors and Gardaí and especially when over 170 riders whizzed by. The children and staff really enjoyed the event. On Saturday 19th May 2018, second class children from Carriganima and Muindfliuch schools received their First Holy Communion in St. John the Baptist Church, Carriganima at 10.30am. On Friday 27th April 2018, we went to the Hurling Blitz in
Macroom Leisure Complex Centre. We played against Inchigeela, Kilbarry, Renanrriee and Ballyvongane schools. Well done to the organisers, Liam our coach and to everyone who participated in the blitz.. On Friday 20th April 2018, we had a very interesting visit from Archaeologist, Deirdre McCarthy. Deirdre has worked in archaeology, folklore and history in Ireland for nearly 20 years. She discussed Ireland's unique archaeology with the children before focusing in detail on the archaeological sites in close proximity to the school. She showed us a slideshow which included many different types of old and broken pieces of pottery, ringforts, skeleton bones and ancient structures which were found. This allowed the children to interact with and learn about the archaeology on their doorstep. They were very enthusiastic and Deirdre was very impressed by their knowledge. There may be some future archaeologists among us, watch this space. On Thursday 22nd February 2018, we had our First Confession. All the children read very well and the other classes who accompanied them, sang so beautifully. Well done to Mrs. Dineen who prepared the children so well, to Fr.
