Road Safety
DANONE (Nutricia) Macroom: (June 2013)
We would like to thank Danone, Macroom for presenting the school with
“The Road to Safety” Board Games.
Based on the traditional snakes and ladders game, it is designed to see players begin in
a driving school and working their way through Irish roads.
Players could land on a motorway and move up the board or could get caught for speeding and receive penalty points.
It teaches children at an early age about the importance of road safety in a fun and educational way.
They learn a lot about Irish roads as they compete with their friends to see who will reach the end first.

An Post Rás 2013
An Post Rás is an annual, eight day stage race around Ireland. The race is Ireland’s number one cycling event and took place this year from Sunday 19th May to Sunday 26th May 2013. The epic race began in 1953 and has been held every year since. It is one of Ireland’s top sporting events bringing world class sporting action and a significant economic boost to towns and villages nationwide. The Rás has a worldwide reputation of being a gruelling challenge in the elite, international calendar.
This year’s Rás covered 1180 kilometres over eight stages with 33 categorised climbs, including four category one climbs, Healy Pass, Gorteen, Drumgoff and Wicklow Gap. It was the 61st edition of the race and the route was designed by cyclist, Stephen O’Sullivan who is a former stage winner and eighteen year veteran of the event.
The action got underway in Dunboyne, Co. Meath with stage finishes in Longford, Nenagh, Listowel, Glengarriff, Mitchelstown, Carlow, Naas and finishing in Skerries. Teams of five riders representing Continental Teams, Countries, Counties and Regions contested the race. The children were given An Post Rás Flags and lollipops before the race.
There was great excitement when they heard the sound of sirens from the cars, crew, doctors and gardaí as they passed our school on Thursday 23rd May 2013 and especially when over 170 riders whizzed by. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the event.
