Carol Singing in Macroom Community Hospital - December 2017
On Thursday 14th December 2017, pupils from Mr. Newman’s class brought some festive cheer to residents at Macroom Community Hospital by performing some traditional Christmas Carols and playing tunes on tin whistle. They love going along to sing carols and it is a great experience for them to go into the community and share their festive cheer with such a wonderful audience.
The smiles on the faces of the residents when they heard the children was wonderful to see - it was a lovely way to get into the spirit of Christmas.
We hope it brought back wonderful and happy memories.
The children wore their festive wooly hats while singing Christmas favourites including ‘Away in a Manger, Silent Night, Jingle Bells’ and also new modern Christmas songs, before tucking into lovely treats and drinks afterwards.
We would like to thank the staff and residents for their hospitality during our visit and to Deirdre O'Grady and Mark for organising it.

Kay McDonagh, Mr. Newman and his class went to UCC on 18th October 2017. The guided tour enabled the children to interact with UCC in a fun and education manner. Ireland’s youngest scholars are inspired to explore the notion of third-level education.
The children went through the Arch of UCC dressed in ceremonial gowns. We saw the Crawford Observatory. The tour finished with a junior conferring ceremony, where all the children were awarded with a junior graduation scroll to record their visit to the University. Our pupils left with an insight to university life and the endless possibilities that await them. |

Trip to Templemore Garda Síochána College 2017
|
Mr. Newman, Kay McDonagh, Garda Orla Doyle and the children travelled to the Primary Training Centre for An Garda Síochána on Wednesday 1st February 2017.
It is a modern University Campus type structure within the town of Templemore, Co. Tipperary where recruits to the Irish Police Force are trained. We met with Sergeant John Reynolds who gave us a guided tour of the college. We saw a lot of student recruitments, their classrooms, the gym, recreational areas and the museum. In the museum, we looked at the various uniforms of the different areas and motor bikes over the years. We were allowed to try on some of the uniforms and hats and were shown many of the equipment, such as handcuffs, baton and pepper spray that all guards are assigned. We also saw the guards marching in preparation for their Graduation day. Thanks to Garda Orla for organising the trip and to Sergeant Reynolds for the very informative tour of the college. It was a great experience and a very enjoyable trip for all. |
